Four photographs from the diving pool on Montjuïc, taken on holiday on a hot day. The pool opened in 1929 and was rebuilt for the 1992 Olympics, and it is famous for what stands behind it - the whole of Barcelona, visible from the boards. In summer anyone can swim there, and on a sunny day it seems everyone does.
These are holiday pictures and I am content with that. The pools are full and the city shimmers behind the splash. Then one frame that earns the trip its place here: a man alone in the stands, reading a book while all of it goes on below him. Everyone else came up the hill for the view or the water. He came up for the quiet. The best backdrop in Barcelona, and his eyes are on the page.
